Big Girl Room

I have finally gotten around to finishing up and taking pictures of M's big girl room.  To see her nursery and to get a feel for how the room has evolved click here.  With baby boy arriving in just over a month we transitioned M to a bed just before Christmas and I have been working on the details ever since.

We switched the bed to the opposite wall, which wasn't my first choice but it was the only configuration that would work with the bed we already owned.

New bedding, curtains, a dresser, and a hand-me-down rocking chair are really the main new pieces to the room.

Since baby is a boy we decided to keep the butterfly mobile in M's room.  I added a few more in the far corner, which I simply cut out and hot glued to the wall.  Nothing fancy but it works!

The rocking chair is a gift from M's Nana and has been in her family for quite some time.  We still need to finish it and I'm trying to decide if I will paint it or just stain it.  A simple cork board covered in fabric fills the wall above her chair and she loves looking at the pictures of her cousins and artwork!

M loves her room as do I and I'm happy to have it finished before baby boy arrives! :)

Big Girl Room

Happy Saturday!

We finally have a weekend at home and we are looking forward to picking and carving pumpkins and having some family time!  I thought I should share what I have been up to design-wise.  We are planning to move M into a big girl bed and switch her room around a bit.  We are going to use the full size bed we have in the guest room and get a new dresser, bedding, chair, and curtains!  I don't want to repaint so we are keeping the very light blue walls.

The bedding arrived today and M is very excited about the horses so that makes me happy.  The rocking chair is one that has been passed down for generations and her Nana is stripping, repainting and having it re-caned.  It will fit better in the room with the larger bed as will the dresser, a gift from her Granny and Papa.  It is definitely a combined effort and we are so lucky to have so much help!

I plan to do the transition in the next month or so.  Wish us luck!! :)

Before and After Feature

After a long sad weekend with the news of Sandy Hook I wanted to feature a great before and after.  Are you like me that you love a great before and after?  I love looking at the before pics and trying to imagine what they do for the afters before I look at them!

Design Indulgence did a great makeover of a master bedroom and when I ran across it on Pinterest I had to share:

Before:

And the amazing After:

If you have been around long you know I'm a sucker for neutrals, especially in bedroom spaces so this is right up my alley.  The things I love are that they painted the nightstands and reused things like the mirror, as well as covering up the holes above the fireplace.

My prayers go out to those in Newtown, CT.  May God comfort you in your time of need.

Company is Coming!

Hi all!

Anyone else have a ton of company all the time?  Since moving closer to home it seems like almost every weekend we are either traveling or we are having people to our house.  Have a baby and see how the grandparents flock ;)

Something I would like to work on is making our guest room a bit cozier with some small details.  I recently made over the room so it looks much better but a few small changes could make it better for our guests.  See our guest room and the progress here.

Anything I'm missing from my list that you like to have out for your guests?

Attic Room

Hello!

While browsing around for inspiration this morning I came across this image from Elle Decor and wanted to share.  I love the mix of frames and black and white photos.  The bed is exactly something I would pick out (in fact, it looks a lot like ours) and you know I'm a sucker for white bedding.  All in all the room is a touch country for my taste but I can definitely appreciate the look!

Tired

Hi all!

Hope you all had a great 4th of July weekend!  Jacob surprised me with my 4 best friends coming into town for the weekend for my 30th birthday.  I literally had no idea and it may have been the best surprise ever.  We have been traveling so much that I have been worn out and ready for a mommy break so the timing was perfect.

I would love to be here taking a nap today!

Have a great day!

Guest Bedroom Reveal

Hi all!

I'm finally here to share the guest bedroom! For around $260 I made quite a few changes and think it has quite the dramatic impact.

If you will remember we started with this:

It was too dark and boring and I was at a dead end trying to make the brown and blue work. A few pieces bought and new paint on the wall and here is the after:

Source List and Budget Breakdown:

White Coverlet $30 HomeGoods
Curtains $15/each BBB
Leaning Mirror $100 HomeGoods
Dressers $35/each IKEA
Paint $30 SW's version of BM Bleeker Beige
Plates already had Marshalls
Duvet already had Target
Butterfly Prints already had calendar framed
Sailboat Painting already had Purchased on our Honeymoon
Curtain Rod already had Target
Lamps already had Target
Pillow already had Target

It goes to show that if you pull from around your house, give a room a fresh coat of paint, and buy a few new things you can really make a big difference and give a room a whole new feel.

Have a great weekend!

Guest Bedroom Paint Options

Hi all!

I'm back with some paint options I'm considering for the guest room. If you don't remember ....this is the room. I am tempted to go dark since I have all white bedding.

I know they are hard to see against the tan wall so I labeled them.

I'm unsure.....maybe I need to go in a different direction.

Anyone want to vote?!?!

Guest Room Progress

Happy Friday!

It has seemed like a long week. We had lots going on, some of which got cancelled and then I was sad. Me being bored and stuck in the house usually means I do something to make myself happy.....like stencil a wall. Oh, yes I did. Pics coming soon! Anyway, I'm here to share a few updates to the guest room. Next comes paint and a few accessories!

If you're new here or need a refresher, here is the before.......yeah, not pretty!

We added curtains, a new coverlet, a leaning mirror, and new nightstands:

The duvet on the bottom of the bed is the same one, just reversed. I'm not sure the blue pillow is staying but it works for now. Not too bad for a few small changes!

Have a great weekend!

Before and After

Hello!

I am back today to show before and after pics of the guest room with the new end tables. This is a room that we have spent little money and attention on so far. The bed was Jacob's from before we got married and was the inspiration for the room in making a more masculine room than what I typically do. I bought the duvet on super sale at Target, but it is back and full price again. Weird. The blue blanket was cheap from IKEA and the frames are from Wally World with a butterfly calendar in them.

Before Pics

This angle is from the door:

I forgot to add I got the lamps on super clearance at Target a few months ago.

After Pics:

The new end tables and the matching lamps definitely are starting to create a cohesive look.

Still to do:

  • Paint the room-I'm wavering between a light tan and a darker warmer tan
  • Get a dust ruffle
  • Get something for over the bed
  • Curtains
  • Potentially change out the butterfly art. I love it but I need something to take up more space visually. Maybe a leaning mirror near the door?!

We are coming along!

Bedroom Inspiration

Here is just another image that is making me think we should go dark with our bedroom. We have a dark 4 poster bed and white bedding. I love the matching bed skirt and pillow.

The other inspiration I have found is here. Super pumped to have a low key weekend at home!

Happy Friday!

Bedroom Inspiration

Hi all!

With the thought of finally settling on a color for our master bedroom I have been doing a lot of bedroom searches. Here are some pictures I have run across along the way and thought I would share:

I love the bamboo shade and colorful pillows

The hanging drum shades are genius!

This reminds me of our bedroom with dark furniture (a 4 poster bed) and white linens with pops of green

Hope you're having a great week!

Navy Obsession

Hi all!

We are coming off a great weekend at home....it's the first weekend we will be home in all of October and November. I'm exhausted just thinking about it. One thing I have been enjoying thinking about is pulling together the master bedroom. It has been on the back burner but when I saw this picture by Bryn Alexandra I was inspired.

The majority of our furniture has an espresso finish and our bed linens are white with a bit of bright green detailing. It's a very large room with 3 large windows so it's a pretty airy feeling space. I think I might be able to pull off such a dark color.

Here are a few other navy rooms I'm liking:

What do you think? Should I go for it?
