Big Girl Room

I have finally gotten around to finishing up and taking pictures of M's big girl room.  To see her nursery and to get a feel for how the room has evolved click here.  With baby boy arriving in just over a month we transitioned M to a bed just before Christmas and I have been working on the details ever since.

We switched the bed to the opposite wall, which wasn't my first choice but it was the only configuration that would work with the bed we already owned.

New bedding, curtains, a dresser, and a hand-me-down rocking chair are really the main new pieces to the room.

Since baby is a boy we decided to keep the butterfly mobile in M's room.  I added a few more in the far corner, which I simply cut out and hot glued to the wall.  Nothing fancy but it works!

The rocking chair is a gift from M's Nana and has been in her family for quite some time.  We still need to finish it and I'm trying to decide if I will paint it or just stain it.  A simple cork board covered in fabric fills the wall above her chair and she loves looking at the pictures of her cousins and artwork!

M loves her room as do I and I'm happy to have it finished before baby boy arrives! :)

Big Girl Room

Happy Saturday!

We finally have a weekend at home and we are looking forward to picking and carving pumpkins and having some family time!  I thought I should share what I have been up to design-wise.  We are planning to move M into a big girl bed and switch her room around a bit.  We are going to use the full size bed we have in the guest room and get a new dresser, bedding, chair, and curtains!  I don't want to repaint so we are keeping the very light blue walls.

The bedding arrived today and M is very excited about the horses so that makes me happy.  The rocking chair is one that has been passed down for generations and her Nana is stripping, repainting and having it re-caned.  It will fit better in the room with the larger bed as will the dresser, a gift from her Granny and Papa.  It is definitely a combined effort and we are so lucky to have so much help!

I plan to do the transition in the next month or so.  Wish us luck!! :)

Play House Makeover

This winter I came across a Little Tikes play house for $30 on Craigslist and I snatched it up!  I was inspired by the makeovers of different play houses on Pinterest and was excited to try one myself!

The house was faded and missing a shutter in the back so a makeover was in order.  M instantly loved it and it was great having outside for her to play with!

I was a bad blogger and didn't take pictures of the painting process but I can tell you that it was relatively easy but that I used a lot more spray paint than I originally thought.  I used spray paint specific to plastic and outdoors, which is key.  I tried and tried to get the shutters and door off but couldn't.  I started by spraying the shutters and door with several coats (3-4) and then letting it dry overnight.

The next day I used wrapping paper and painters tape to cover the shutters and the door.  The roof comes off so that was easy to do.  Once the everything was covered I sprayed the body of the house, which took several coats to cover the over spray from the black and red.

Even though I spent close to $60 in spray paint I would definitely do it again.  I love that it blends into the yard better and looks so much better than the faded house it started out as.

Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!

Toddler Friendly Christmas Tree

Happy Friday!

I wanted to share a quick project I just whipped up while M is napping.  I had a bunch of felt lying around and when I saw a felt tree for toddlers to decorate on Pinterest I had to give it a try.  I'm a bit worried about M and the tree this year so I am hoping I can direct her to this tree as one she can play with.

I took this pile of felt:

And turned it into this in just about an hour:

Oliver had to be in the shot!  The best part is that the ornaments all come off and because felt sticks to felt M can move them around and hopefully have fun decorating her tree.

I glued the tree to the wall with a bit of hot glue and the presents are attached as well!

Not too bad for an hour of time and completely free especially if it keeps M busy and out of the real tree!  Here's hoping!

Have a great weekend!

Little Girl's Room

Happy Friday!

Here is a pretty image that I'm going to leave you with to start your weekend. I have started saving pretty rooms like this for when M gets bigger.

I'm excited to do a bit of shopping with my mom this weekend.

Hope you have something fun planned!

Kid Spaces

Good morning!

I'm jumping way ahead thinking about big kid spaces but I had fun browsing around on Pinterest and these are a few of my favorites. I have to admit half of this post is just so I can remember these ideas when M gets a bit bigger.

I love the colors of this room and the chandelier!

I love this idea for a little nook

I love all the bright colors and organizational bins. I think it's great to have a kid area that still flows with the rest of the house!
