Inspiring Blogger: White Waxflower

Good morning!

We had an amazing weekend relaxing, catching up with friends, eating yummy food, and enjoying some alone time. My mother in law left on Saturday and we spent the rest of the weekend with friends. Unfortunately, Monday came too soon yet again....

I have been bad and not doing a featured blogger once a week like I had intended. I'm going to try to get back on track and feature Mary Grace from White Waxflower today. Those not familiar NEED to head over there right now!
Mary Grace is a girl after my own heart with her vintage finds and mixing of pieces together in her own home to create a cozy but coherent look. She and her husband live in San Diego, California in a townhouse near the beach. Here are a few pictures of their current home:

I love the inviting space she created on their patio.
I love the light airy feeling she created in the living room
Can you believe she reupholstered those chairs herself? Impressive!

Mary Grace's talents don't stop at putting rooms together she also features some amazing before and afters on her blog. Here are a few of my favorite:

Here is a computer desk (I think) that she made into a bar cart for their patio.

I promise those of you that love fun design blogs won't be disappointed. Head over there now!

Happy Monday!

Yellow Decor

Good morning!

I thought I would continue on with my color scheme idea and cover the ever-so-popular-right-now yellow. Here are a few images of yellow decor that I think are inspiring.

A softer more subtle yellow
I love the chairs and the trunk

There are so many things I love about the picture! The skirted sofa, the pillows, the lamp...I could go on and on!

A fun bold way to introduce yellow into your existing decor is to paint a piece of furniture.

I am in love with this chair and I think it would look lovely in most any room.
Another big way to change a room is to paint the floor. I ran across this image in my search for yellow decor and had to post it.

here is the link to the tutorial.......Amazing!

Now onto a few more simple easy solutions to bring yellow into your home.

Fresh flowers placed in small containers around a room or on a table always are a great idea!
Another way to work with flowers to to buy a fake arrangement or head to your local craft store and make one yourself.
I love this picture and think it would be easy to recreate.

Lamps are a great and usually inexpensive way to add a pop of color.

A twist on adding lamps is leaving the base of the lamp neutral and coloring the shade.

Here is a link to the tutorial on how to dye a regular old lampshade. I'm adding this to my must try list!

I hope you're inspired to bring a pop of color, yellow or not into your home. It's as easy as adding a few touches maybe even a pretty bowl of lemons!

Happy Sunday!

Let's Help the Animals

Hi all!

I had a different post planned for today but I was inspired by Ms. Hark at Not Just Another Blonde in Beijing. She has a wonderful post about the oil spill and the effect it is having on our ecosystems as well as the economy but she mostly focuses on the animals.

Those of you that know me know that I am a huge animal lover. I have had a pet since I was 4 years old and I grew up wanting to save every stray. Jacob and I now have 2 kitties and 2 doggies, which is plenty for now! Don't worry we have plans and names picked out for more once we move into a house with a big back yard. ;)

I would love to encourage each of you to make a contribution to help the animals of the oil spill. Even $5 will help make a difference! If animals aren't your thing then please find another organization you would like to help.

Don't worry, I won't make preaching at you all a habit, it's just something I think we owe our earth to be concerned about.

Click here to donate to the National Wildlife Federation and their efforts to help in the cleanup and rescuing of so many species of wildlife.

"Please donate today to help protect the over 400 species of treasured wildlife that stand to lose so much from this devastating tragedy. Your support will go right to work protecting wildlife and wild places impacted by the BP oil spill disaster." -NWF website

Thank you for your help!

Wishful Thinking

Hi there!

I don't know about where you are but here in S Florida it feels like summer. We have spent the last few days outside in the heat and let me tell you it is steamy! As Jacob and I look forward to the future I get more and more excited about buying a house. I don't know about you all but some of my favorite blog posts are about what is out there right now in stores.

I thought I would do a post about things I am loving right now with a link to where you can buy it if you love it like I do!

First and foremost is this zigzag rug from West Elm. I would love to see it under a dining room table or a coffee table in the living room.

How perfect would this coffee table be over the zigzag rug? I love a clear coffee table especially in a small space.

As a former NJ resident with my inlaws living in NYC, we have a love for New York. I love this pillow and think it might just have to come live with us.

This lamp is the perfect mix of modern and sexy in my opinion. I would love to use this on my desk in my office.

Now I will preface this next one by saying that I am dreaming here and posting things I would love to have.....I love peonies. My bouquet was white peonies with a touch of some greenery and I loved it. Since peonies are only available for around a month or two of the year I am constantly on the hunt for a real looking alternative. I found these, which come highly recommended but they are pricey.

I am off to get my day started. Have a great one!

Green Decor

Hello!

I hope everyone had a nice long weekend! We had a few days of relaxing at the beach and pool with my mother in law. It was really nice!

I thought today I would do a post about how to decorate with a specific color. I love green so I'll start there. Here are a few rooms with green decor:

There are several different ways to incorporate a color into a room. The first and most basic would be paint.
Another easy way that I like to change up the color scheme is throw pillows. They are inexpensive and if you can sew they're super easy to make.
I'm a big fan of hanging plates on the wall. If you can find a few plates you like they add dimension and interest to any room.

I love glassware.
Bedding, of course!
We have art like this in our bedroom. I actually painted a fern leaf and then stamped it onto paper and framed it, rather than buying already framed art.
And of course, plants are a great addition to any room even if your color scheme isn't green. It's becoming a lot easier to find fake plants that are realistic looking if you have a brown thumb.

What is your favorite color scheme?
